Every indoor swimming pool owner needs to take care of three important factors Water Heating, Air Heating and Dehumidification. All three of these important jobs are interconnected, which is why you need Environmental Control Unit (Air Handling Unit AHU).

Recent improvements to the already Energy Efficient and Super Reliable Variheat 3 mean it will continue to be first choice for many pool professionals. Models 600, 900 and 1200 now include a constant flow inverter driven fans. These fans will intelligently adapt themselves to correct the air flow through the system. This will not only make commissioning the units faster but will help reduce power consumption (save you money) and reduce noise levels.
Calorex also offer a range of options that allow the Variheat 3 to connect with your choosen renewable heat source, such as Air Source Heat Pumps &Ground Source Heat Pumps. Of course you can still seamlessly connect to a traditional Boiler (Gas/Oil) if required.
Calorex Variheat 3 controls the operation of the heat source such as a Calorex heat pump or a boiler and combines it with a highly efficient heat pump dehumidifier to provide air and water heating, humidity control, ventilation and energy recovery. Indoor swimming pools constantly evaporate large volumes of moisture into the space around them. Unless this moisture is removed, humidity will rise creating an uncomfortable environment and structural/fabric damage.
Totally self controlling the Variheat 3 will remove this moisture and recover energy from it which is then re-used to assist water and air heating. By utilising this method, a heat cycle is created and energy costs are kept to a minimum. Typically, for every unit of power that a Calorex Variheat consumes, it will convert more than twice this amount to usable heat. The potential energy savings are huge. In fact compared to traditional heat and ventilation, considerable energy cost savings can be made and corresponding CO2 emissions can be dramatically reduced.
The majority of the heating needs can be provided by heat recovery from the dehumidification process. Heat losses that cannot be recovered are replaced using inbuilt heat exchangers which are connected to a hot water supply from an external heat source boiler (Gas/Oil/Biomass) or by a renewable heat source (Heat pump air/ground source). Control is fully automatic once customer preferences have been set up. A time clock permits reduction of pool air temperature to reduce heating cost when the pool cover is in place. Variheat can also operate as low as 5oC to allow real energy savings. Each size of machine is available with a choice of heat exchangers, which are designed to match the flow temperatures of differing heat sources. Electric space heating modules are available which may be preferable if you are not on main gas but have a large solar array (PV).
Air cooling can be provided by the Variheat 3’s Optional Fresh Air Module.The large capacity fresh air fans can reduce the air temperature in summer by introducing large amounts of fresh air. Alternatively the Calorex Variheat 3 can be supplied with an optional remote condensing unit that provides dynamic room cooling. The remote condensing unit is a fully weather proofed and packaged system add on that can be installed up to 30m away from the Variheat. However is air cooling is potential problem for your indoor swimming pool we would consider a Calorex Delta Unit which has built in air conditioning (Delta 4 onwards).
Variheat 3 silently circulates heated air through highly efficient variable speed fans throughout the pool hall to ensure an even temperature and control of humidity/condensation. For additional comfort and control of airborne chemicals a fresh air option is available, having the additional advantage of creating a slight negative pressure in the pool hall to prevent migration of pool air to adjacent rooms.
Variheat is complete with easy to read and readily adjustable humidistat, thermostats and time clock together with all diagnostic and operational indicators. These are conveniently mounted in a compact multi-position 12volt panel which the installer can locate on the Variheat or at a convenient position up to 20m from the unit. When the pool cover is in place, energy saving from air temperature reduction can be achieved automatically by the control link to the pool cover system. Alternatively, a poolside remote panel complete with sensors, enables the user to conveniently view the temperature and humidity conditions as well as the machine status.
Variheat is exceptionally compact and easy to configure to suit customer and building requirements. Up draught, downdraught, horizontal airflows, 90 degree turns and left/right handing are all easily achieved from the standard Variheat. Ducting requirements being minimised, the options are endless. Where no connection to the filtration circuit is required, Variheat can be supplied without water heat exchanger.
This is the most popular choice as heat recovery is possible back to air and water, but a backup heat source can also top up either as and when required.
This unit will remove moisture from the air, a by product of that process via the heat pump will be heat recovery back to the air heating.
This is to say the unit will only dehumidify.
