Using an Ozonator system makes sense for lot UK pool owners. They are very simple to install especially to retro fit to an existing plant room (read instructions in the resources tab). They will allow you to use 80% less chlorine in your pool. You will still need to keep a small background level of chlorine. Like the UV systems the lamp cartridge will need changing after a certain amount of time. The life expectancy of the Phillips Lamp supplied with the UV systems is 9000 hrs. The UV lamps effectiveness will decrease over time. 9000 hours is the approximate life cycle. Spare lamp cartridges can be purchased from this store.
The Swimming Pool Ozone Units work slightly different to the UV systems. The Ozone is injected into the swimming pool pipe. Disinfection happens within the actual water as oppose to exposure to light. The two best ways of injecting the ozone are via Venturi or by means of a compressor. Obviously the venturi method is much cheaper . Just basic injectors, pipe and non return valves are required. However under certain circumstances a compressor method of delivery is the only option. One such circumstance would be if your plant room is below the waterline. If you are unsure please call one of our friendly technical staff.
In both circumstances above air will enter the swimming pool system. This will cause a few bubbles to be injected to the pool via the inlets. This is air perfectly harmless. Some customers do not like the idea of bubble in their swimming pool on indoor pools it may cause noise believe it or not. The only way to remove the air is to install a degasser. This will purge the air before it enters the swimming pool. Again ask for details if you are unsure.

Ozone Generation Theory :
All ozone is produced directly or indirectly by oxygen gas (O2) being energised to split and reform into Ozone (O3). This is accomplished by applying an alternating voltage across a gas. The higher the frequency the higher the energy in the gas and the lower the voltage required to energise the system. In the case of VUV ozone producing amps, the energy of the alternative current is applied to a tube of quartz containing mercury gas which then excites the oxygen outside the quartz tube to form ozone.
Prozone ozone generation systems must be used in conjunction with either chlorine or bromine. Ozone oxidises combined the chlorine and bromine freeing it to be continuously re-used. This reduces chemical consumption and eliminates eye and skin irritation.
