Ozone water treatment for domestic swimming pools has caught on well in the UK with more and more users appreciating the benefits of swimming in a low chemical swimming pool. However the term ‘Salt Water Pool’ seems to confuse most people. They think the pool does not have chemicals or chlorine. In fact all that happens in salt water pool is the main chemical (chlorine) is generated by passing electricity through the salt water. This happens in a ‘cell’ the result is chlorine.
Now if you don’t use UV or Ozone then all you are really doing is generating the chlorine that your pool uses….at the same level you would normally dosing into the pool. If you are clever enough though you can use a UV or ozone system to reduce the amount of chlorine by about 80%. Which makes it similar to tap water! We pride ourselves on honesty here, and as such I would like to be honest about the possible down sides of using a salt system. Salt can be very corrosive and damage equipment. In the UK salt systems have struggled to really take off.
