Heat pumps are perfectly designed to put small amounts of heat into your pool water over a long period of time. This means very high efficiencies, which in turn will save you large amounts of money on your heating cost.
If you consider an average gas boiler is only ever 85 to 90 % energy efficient. A Calorex Heat Pump will deliver 350% efficiency when the air temperature is above 10 degrees. If the air temperature reaches 25 degrees this goes up to a massive 500%. So for every £1 you spend on running the heat pump (electricity) you will gain £5 worth of heat. You will be getting free heat from the air!

The Calorex sizing charts as base on the following assumption, the entire pool is in the ground, ground water level is below pool construction, average water depth is 1.3m and a heat retention cover is used for 20hrs a day. If your pool is in a very exposed location please tell use as this may have a small bearing too.
Inverter technology allows for efficient control of the pool temperature, and the I-PAC only uses what energy is needed when it is required.High efficiency with modulating step-less inverter compressor giving an average COP of 9.7.
A heat pump extracts latent heat energy from the surrounding air and transfers the heat energy to the water of the swimming pool. It works like a reversed air conditioner, using an evaporator, a compressor, and condenser to heat water instead of cooling air.
The fan circulates air through the outer evaporator air coil that acts as a heat collector and absorbs heat from the ambient air.
The liquid refrigerant in the air coil absorbs the available heat in the air transforming it to a gas. The refrigerant in the I Pac range is newer R32. The compressor then receives the warmed refrigerant and intensifies the heat. The intensely hot refrigerant is then pumped into the heat exchanger (condenser).
The heat from the hot refrigerant flowing inside the heat exchanger is then transferred to the pool water, via the surface of the heat exchangers coils.
The refrigerant is then ready to restart the process and flows into the evaporator air coil to collect heat again.
Calorex have two main ranges of domestic heat pump.
Summer/Extended Season Heat Pumps or X range.
These perform well in summer but can also operate when there is ground frost or a cold snap. They cost a little less than the all year model. Tests over the last few years have enabled Calorex to upgrade the season from Summer Only to Extended Season. This is beacuse the defrost system on the X range is good enough for all types of British weather.
All Year Round or Y range.
These will perform all year round. If the weather gets very cold the unit will defrost (reverse cycle) itself before continuing to work.
Calorex offer Single and Three Phase Electrical Options. Large single phase units do require a large amount of amps due to load on start up, which is why 'soft start' is also available. This is very useful, and can be retro fitted by an electrician (held in stock) or factory fitted (special order). The soft start will reduce the initial current surge associated with compressors.

All heat pumps will heat indoor and outdoor pools, but remember indoor pools tend to be used all year where as most outdoor pools use in the warmer months.
All Calorex heat pumps are sold in the UK come with a comprehensive 3 years parts and labour warranty. Calorex have a number of approved engineers at various locations around the country. The warranty procedure is very straight forward although seldom used!
